What does the NZIA mean for photovoltaics?
The Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA) is intended to strengthen the industrial base for climate-neutral technologies in Europe and reduce dependence on individual third countries.
Photovoltaics is one of the net-zero technologies covered by the NZIA.
In the context of relevant public procurement and funding schemes, so-called ‘non-price criteria’ may increasingly become relevant alongside traditional criteria. These include, in particular, requirements relating to:
- supply chain resilience
- the origin of key components
- environmental sustainability
- social standards
- security of supply
This means that, in future, the lowest price will no longer be the sole deciding factor in certain PV tenders.
