KEM is set to become the new standard

Plan solar PV systems more easily, install them more cost-effectively

For many current KOSTAL systems, the KOSTAL Energy Meter (KEM) is the first choice today. Especially with the current device generation, the inverter takes over functions for which the KOSTAL Smart Energy Meter (KSEM) was previously required. This makes system planning easier and saves costs.

Why the KEM is often the first choice today

Many specialist companies routinely rely on the KOSTAL Smart Energy Meter for KOSTAL systems. With the current system generation, it pays to rethink this habit.
In the combination of PLENTICORE G3 and ENECTOR G2, the inverter directly takes over the intelligent control of the wallbox. The energy meter provides the required measurement values. A KSEM is no longer necessary for this task – the KEM fulfills the required functions.

Save money and time

The KEM is not only the more cost-effective, but also a particularly simple solution: it measures five times per second, is load-bearing up to 100 A, and requires no configuration via its own web interface. Compared to the KSEM, there is also a cost saving of around 100 euros.

To the factsheet "KEM or KSEM"

In short: lower costs and less effort during installation.

KEM or KSEM – which meter fits when?

KEM – the first choice for many standard systems

The KEM is recommended, among others, for:

  • 1 × PLENTICORE G2 or G3 – with or without battery storage
  • PLENTICORE G3 in a device network
  • PLENTICORE G3 with ENECTOR G2

KSEM – for systems with extended functional requirements

The KSEM remains the right choice when additional functions or connection options are required, for example with:

  • PLENTICORE G2 with ENECTOR G2
  • PLENTICORE G2 or G3 with ENECTOR G1
  • PLENTICORE G2 in a device network
  • Systems with PIKO CI
  • PIKO CI for house grid connections above 63 A with transformer measurement

For the next system: Check KEM first

For installers, this means a simple change in system planning: do not automatically reach for the KSEM, but first check whether the KEM already covers the required functions.

This avoids unnecessary costs, simplifies planning, and allows offering customers more economical complete solutions. The KSEM remains the powerful solution for more complex systems – but for many current installations with PLENTICORE G3, the KEM is the more suitable choice.

KEM for standard systems. KSEM when more is needed.
