How large should a solar panel system on a production hall be?

The available roof area alone does not determine the optimum size of a photovoltaic system. For a sensible design, several factors must be taken into account:

  • available and suitable roof area
  • Structural integrity and condition of the roof
  • Orientation and potential shading
  • annual electricity consumption
  • load profile throughout the day
  • Consumption on weekdays and at weekends
  • Existing grid connection
  • Future additional loads
  • Desired self-consumption
  • Feeding surplus energy into the grid or selling it
