KOSTAL Energy Meter – the new standard for a wide range of applications

Easy to install, ready to use straight away and ideally suited to many typical PV applications: the KOSTAL Energy Meter (KEM) is the recommended solution for numerous systems featuring hybrid inverters from the PLENTICORE series.

KOSTAL Energy Meter: Just the right fit

PV system, battery storage, energy metering and smart power control: for many typical applications, the KOSTAL Energy Meter is all you need.

The KEM measures household consumption 24 hours a day, enables dynamic active power control and provides the measurement data required to operate a battery storage system.

The key advantage: the KEM is already pre-configured for numerous applications with PLENTICORE. Simply connect it, commission it, and you’re done – no additional settings are required on the Energy Meter.

This makes the KEM a simple and cost-effective solution for many new KOSTAL PV systems.

KEM or KSEM? In many cases, the answer is simple. KEM.

Anyone planning a typical PV system with PLENTICORE should first consider the KOSTAL Energy Meter. This is because, for numerous applications involving PLENTICORE G3 – with or without battery storage, and also when integrated with Multi Device Control – the KEM is the solution recommended by KOSTAL.

The KOSTAL Smart Energy Meter (KSEM) comes into play particularly when additional functions or special system configurations require it. This makes the choice simpler: KEM for many typical applications – KSEM for special requirements.

Why KEM?

The KOSTAL Energy Meter combines the functions required for many PV systems with particularly simple installation and commissioning. It enables the visualisation of self-consumption and self-sufficiency in the KOSTAL Solar Portal and the KOSTAL Solar App. The measurement data is transmitted directly to the inverters.

Three-phase energy measurement takes place in real time. The KEM can be quickly integrated into the KOSTAL system via the pre-configured Modbus RTU interface (RS485). For installers, this means: less configuration work, simple commissioning and an energy meter that is immediately suitable for many applications.

An energy meter for the PLENTICORE series

The KOSTAL Energy Meter can be combined with the PLENTICORE series hybrid inverters and, in doing so, performs key functions within the energy system:

  • 24-hour household consumption measurement
  • Dynamic active power control, e.g. 60 per cent regulation
  • Provision of measurement data for battery operation
  • Pre-configured Modbus RTU connection (RS485)
  • Visualisation of self-consumption and self-sufficiency
  • Simple installation and commissioning
Equipment combination KEM
1 x PLENTICORE plus (G2) Yes
1 x PLENTICORE G3 Yes
1 x PLENTICORE plus (G2) with battery storage Yes
1 x PLENTICORE G3 with battery storage Yes
Multiple PLENTICORE G3 units in a network with Multi Device Control Yes
PLENTICORE G3 with Multi Device Control and ENECTOR G2 Yes

Our tip: When planning a new PLENTICORE system, check the KEM first. For many typical applications, it is already the right solution and the one recommended by KOSTAL. You will need the KSEM primarily for the specific system configurations listed above.
