KOSTAL launches sales of the PLENTICORE BI 25 battery inverter
The new battery inverter adds a high-performance solution for larger energy storage projects to the KOSTAL portfolio.
With an output of 25 kW, three-phase emergency power supply functionality and intelligent system integration, the PLENTICORE BI 25 offers a high degree of flexibility for energy storage systems in commercial premises and high-specification residential buildings.
KOSTAL announces the official launch of the new PLENTICORE BI 25 battery inverter. Designed for high power requirements and flexible system architectures, this AC-coupled unit combines 25 kW of power with versatile options for integrating battery storage systems. The PLENTICORE BI 25 is therefore aimed in particular at specialist planners, installers and operators who wish to implement larger storage capacities, reduce peak loads or optimise the self-consumption of solar power.
Retrofitting, expanding, scaling: great freedom in planning
As an AC-coupled solution, the PLENTICORE BI 25 is suitable for both existing PV systems and new energy systems. As PV generation and battery storage are connected on the AC side, the storage system can be configured independently of the existing or planned PV inverter structure.
With three independent battery connections, the inverter enables the flexible connection of high-voltage batteries – such as the KOSTAL HELIVOR HV modular storage system – and supports storage capacities ranging from 5 to 230 kWh. This allows energy systems to be sized to meet specific needs and adapted to rising energy demands or changing usage scenarios.
A powerful combination for the commercial sector: PLENTICORE BI 25 and PIKO CI G2
The PLENTICORE BI 25 offers particular advantages when combined with the KOSTAL PIKO CI G2 commercial solar inverter in the 30, 50 and 100 kW power classes:
- Optimised installation: Thanks to the functional separation of the PV and battery inverters, the PIKO CI G2 can be installed close to the solar array. This enables short DC cable runs and reduces the length of DC cabling required within the building.
- Flexible placement: The PLENTICORE BI 25 and the storage system – for example, the HELIVOR HV – can be positioned independently of the PV inverter at a location suitable for installation, operation and environmental conditions.
- Scalable system architecture: In combination with KOSTAL Multi Device Control (MDC), several KOSTAL inverters can be intelligently networked to form a single integrated system. A central MDC host coordinates the energy flows and higher-level control signals within the interconnected system – including in the context of the requirements set out in Section 9 of the EEG and Section 14a of the EnWG.
High efficiency, peak shaving and dynamic electricity tariffs
The PLENTICORE BI 25 achieves a peak efficiency of up to 98.3% with low standby losses. Features such as peak shaving make it possible to specifically reduce load peaks using energy from the battery storage system.
Furthermore, the battery storage system can be charged and discharged in a cost-optimised manner in conjunction with dynamic electricity tariffs. This allows stored energy to be drawn off or utilised at the most economically favourable times.
Three-phase emergency power for high supply reliability
To ensure greater supply reliability during power cuts, the PLENTICORE BI 25 features a three-phase emergency power function. In emergency power mode, the unit can supply loads with a power rating of up to 25 kVA, making it suitable for applications with higher power requirements in both commercial and domestic settings.
Open interfaces and simple installation
The PLENTICORE BI 25 is designed for integration into networked energy systems. Standardised communication options such as EEBUS (LPC & MPC) and Modbus/SunSpec TCP support integration into energy and building management systems. At the same time, the unit is prepared to meet the requirements of Section 14a of the German Energy Economy Act (EnWG).
KOSTAL also prioritises a straightforward process for installation and commissioning: push-in terminals facilitate rapid wiring. Commissioning can be carried out via an app, a web server or directly on the unit. Software updates can be installed automatically via the AutoUpdate function. System and operational data are available via the KOSTAL Solar Portal and the KOSTAL Solar App.
“With the PLENTICORE BI 25, we are expanding our portfolio to include a high-performance and flexible storage solution for larger energy requirements. In particular, the combination of high battery capacity, three battery connections and integration into our system ecosystem opens up a wide range of possibilities for specialist partners – from retrofitting existing PV systems to scalable solutions for commercial applications.” –
