Agri-PV supplies more than 600 households
GPSS (Green Power Systems Solutions) is setting new standards in sustainable energy generation and modern agriculture with its agri-photovoltaic project in Kehlen. The innovative project combines agricultural use with the generation of renewable energy, thereby making an important contribution to the energy transition in Kehlen (Luxembourg).
With an installed capacity of 2 MWp, the agri-PV system in Kehlen can supply more than 600 households with the electricity it produces. The loss of land, which consists of the area no longer accessible to machinery and the area required for infrastructure, is only 2.9%. This means that more than 97% of the land can continue to be actively used for agriculture.
Dual use for a sustainable future
The agri-PV system in Kehlen is designed to enable agricultural production on the land below while generating solar power. ‘This technology creates a win-win situation for farmers and the environment: it protects crops from extreme weather conditions and optimises the use of agricultural land without compromising food production,’ says Patrick Witte, General Manager of Green Power Systems Solutions.
Technology and environmental benefits combined
The installed solar modules are designed to allow sufficient sunlight to reach the plants while feeding electricity into the grid. This form of photovoltaics helps to reduce CO₂ emissions and increases regional energy independence. The PIKO CI 100 from KOSTAL, a powerful inverter that ensures efficient conversion of the solar power generated, is used. ‘Thanks to its high efficiency and flexible application options, the PIKO CI 100 contributes significantly to optimising energy generation and ensures a reliable feed-in to the grid,’ adds George Hanna, Product Manager at KOSTAL.
PIKO CI 100 – the advantages at a glance:
- High efficiency and reliable performance
- Flexible options for various applications
- Optimised grid feed-in for a stable power supply
- Reduced operating costs thanks to intelligent control
- Long service life and high resistance to environmental influences
- Easy integration into existing energy systems
KOSTAL and GPSS: A model for future projects
The project in Kehlen demonstrates the potential of agri-photovoltaics and could serve as a model for further sustainable energy projects in Luxembourg and beyond. GPSS works closely with farmers, municipalities and authorities to develop innovative solutions for the energy and agricultural sectors.
