KOSTAL Wallbox ENECTOR: Getting the best out of the sun - tested and confirmed

KOSTAL ENECTOR impresses in the 2025 wallbox inspection with top marks in standby consumption and PV charging operation

HTW Wallbox Inspection 2025 confirms: Users who rely on a fully integrated energy system and value efficient, sustainable and convenient charging benefit from KOSTAL.

With the Wallbox ENECTOR AC 3.7/11 kW, KOSTAL underlines its expertise in efficient and intelligently networked charging infrastructure. The latest results of the Wallbox Inspection 2025 conducted by HTW Berlin confirm the high performance of the KOSTAL Wallbox, particularly in PV-optimised operation.

‘With the ENECTOR, we are pursuing the clear goal of feeding PV electricity into electric vehicles as efficiently and precisely as possible,’ says Dennis Hollenbeck, Product Manager for the KOSTAL Wallbox ENECTOR.

With exceptionally low standby consumption, fast response times and precise control, the ENECTOR makes optimum use of even small PV surpluses. As a fully integrated component of the KOSTAL energy system – consisting of an inverter, home storage and energy management – it enables particularly efficient and transparent charging.

‘Thanks to our special control system and the PV-optimised Solar Pure and Solar Plus modes, we ensure that users can make maximum use of the electricity they generate themselves – intelligently, reliably and completely suitable for everyday use. The results from HTW Berlin are both recognition and motivation for us,’ adds Hollenbeck.

In addition, the KOSTAL Wallbox ENECTOR supports particularly fine control steps of 0.5 amps and continuously checks at fixed intervals of 15 minutes whether phase switching is actually necessary, thereby minimising the number of switching operations and the associated wear and tear. Thanks to the reduced dead time during regulation, the Wallbox achieves a particularly high level of control quality – this means that it can react to changes in the energy supply with virtually no delay, thus optimally controlling the charging behaviour.

The specially developed operating modes, including experience gained in the field of photovoltaic systems, round off the concept, which is consistently designed for self-consumption and optimisation, and make the ENECTOR one of the most powerful and efficient wallboxes in its class, as tested and confirmed by HTW Berlin in the Wallbox Performance Index 2025.

Best value for standby consumption

‘The ENECTOR is one of the most efficient wallboxes on the market – with extremely low standby consumption.’

With the ENECTOR AC 3.7 / 11 kW, KOSTAL sets a benchmark for energy-efficient charging. The latest evaluation by HTW Wallbox Inspection 2025 confirms the wallbox's extremely low standby consumption, which is among the best values ever measured in the entire test field. Since a wallbox spends most of its time in standby mode, this value has a direct impact on long-term operating costs and overall energy efficiency. For users, this means minimal power consumption and maximum everyday usability. The KOSTAL Wallbox ENECTOR thus demonstrates that intelligent charging infrastructure can be powerful and resource-efficient.

Responsive & PV-optimised

‘Thanks to fast response times, the Wallbox reliably utilises even small PV yields.’
The ENECTOR has been specially developed for PV use and reacts exceptionally quickly to changes in the energy supply. The wallbox's high responsiveness and control quality is particularly evident in changing irradiation conditions, such as when clouds pass by. Even small amounts of surplus power are detected and used efficiently, so that even small PV yields are converted into usable charging energy. The fast response time also protects against unnecessary grid consumption: if the PV supply drops briefly, the ENECTOR quickly adjusts the charging power, thus preventing unnecessary costs. This combination of speed and precision ensures particularly harmonious and low-loss charging behaviour in real-world operation.

Seamless integration into the KOSTAL energy system

‘Inverter, storage, wallbox – everything from a single source.’

As part of the KOSTAL energy system, the ENECTOR fits perfectly into the interaction between inverter, battery storage, energy management and monitoring. Via EEBUS and Modbus TCP/TLS, the energy management system in the KOSTAL Smart Energy Meter G2 communicates securely with external components (e.g. iMSys and external energy managers), thus integrating the wallbox and other KOSTAL components perfectly into the energy world of tomorrow, today. Users benefit from consistent energy management, clear prioritisation between home storage and vehicle, and the ability to monitor all energy flows in a single app and portal. This system integration reduces complexity on the construction site, simplifies commissioning and ensures maximum transparency and efficiency during operation. Charging energy is not viewed in isolation, but is intelligently optimised within the overall system.

Precise control in single-phase and three-phase operation

‘High precision, stable performance and maximum utilisation of available PV power.’

The KOSTAL Wallbox ENECTOR demonstrates high control accuracy, particularly in single-phase and three-phase operation. This is particularly relevant as it corresponds to the preferred charging power of many households (e.g. three-phase up to 11) and thus covers a wide range of common charging processes. Precise control ensures that the wallbox delivers exactly the power specified by the energy management system – both with constant PV production and with ‘fluctuating’ conditions from PV generation and consumption. The high accuracy minimises deviations, increases the PV share of the charged energy and ensures stable charging behaviour without unnecessary load jumps. The KOSTAL ENECTOR thus sets technical standards in practical single-phase and three-phase charging.

Solar Pure & Solar Plus specially developed for PV surplus

‘Efficient, sustainable and perfectly tailored to everyday life.’

With the Solar Pure and Solar Plus operating modes, KOSTAL offers two charging strategies that are consistently optimised for PV operation:

  • Solar Pure, on the other hand, relies entirely on pure PV-based energy and ensures that only genuine surplus energy is used to charge the vehicle
  • Solar Plus combines PV surplus with intelligent additional charging from the grid to ensure minimum charges and shorten charging times

Both modes are finely tuned to the dynamic requirements of a household with photovoltaics and make optimum use of the fast control of the KOSTAL Wallbox. The result is maximum self-consumption, particularly solar-friendly charging behaviour and full transparency for the user. The specially developed modes ensure that the energy goes exactly where it is needed – efficiently, sustainably and perfectly tailored to everyday life.

KOSTAL Wallbox ENECTOR – for anyone who wants to maximise their self-consumption and charge as much solar power as possible directly into their electric vehicle. Thanks to its extremely low standby consumption, fast response time and precise control, the Wallbox really comes into its own in systems with fluctuating PV generation, smaller surplus power and dynamic load profiles.

About HTW Berlin and WPI 2025

The Berlin University of Applied Sciences (HTW) is one of the leading research centres for solar energy and electromobility in Germany. With its Wallbox Inspection, it regularly tests chargers from various manufacturers under realistic laboratory conditions. Among other things, it determines the Wallbox Performance Index (WPI) – a key figure that shows how efficiently a wallbox uses solar power. The higher the WPI, the better the wallbox utilises the PV power it generates itself and the less energy it needs to purchase from the grid. For end customers, a high WPI means more self-generated energy for their cars, lower costs and a particularly sustainable charging process.
